A recent study from Facebook reveals the top 10 most popular honeymoon destinations in 2014 based on check-in lists from newly-wed couples.
How many envy-encouraging check-ins have you seen on your Facebook wall from friends getting married and jetting off to exotic locations this year? “Tagging and bragging” has become a popular social phenomena and with weddings and honeymoons being life event highlights for many people the tags and check-ins are flourishing online.
So how did Facebook conduct the study?
The data team at Facebook based the study on couples on Facebook who not only posted a marriage event in 2014 but also checked into a location within two weeks after their self-idenfied marriage date. Check-ins within 20 miles of their home location were excluded from the study.
The result
Not too surprisingly Las Vegas took the top spot but interestingly no European destination made it to the top 10 list. Mexico was the first overseas destination of choice outside of the US.
The study also revealed that South Koreans were travelling the greatest distance to their honeymoon destinations.
Additionally, over a 100 couples checked into a place farther than 12,000 miles away from home. Couples living in Spain who traveled to New Zealand and Peruvians who traveled to Thailand made up a large proportion of this group.
