Why you definitely shouldn't visit LA

Los Angeles. It's just all concrete, plastic and smog, right? And it really isn't worth your time, eh? Here are some other reasons why a visit to Los Angeles shouldn't be on the cards this year...or should it?

Los Angeles. It’s just all concrete, plastic and smog, right? And it really isn’t worth your time, eh? Here are some other reasons why a visit to Los Angeles shouldn’t be on the cards this year…or should it?

Travel brochures state that Los Angeles is a year-round destination with amazing weather – more than 320 days of sunshine per year.

They also go on and on about how LA is the entertainment capital of the world, with movie studio tours, theme parks, tons of sporting options, amazing nightlife, and virtually unlimited shopping options.

But are these just myths?

Well, Excite Holidays is giving you – the ever unbiased travel agent – the chance to find out for yourself, by putting a trip to LA up for grabs.

All you need to do to be in the running is book a client to Los Angeles with Excite Holidays and you could be on your way to la la land.

Then, not only can you check out LAX airport – now the most modern airport in the USA – and some of the city’s hotel accommodation options (which are also some of the most competitive in the country), but you can also find out if LA is all it’s cracked up to be.

So are you ready?

Just to put you off going even more, here are some other reasons why a trip to LA shouldn’t be on the cards this year.

The sunsets look like this. Boring.

View from Venice Beach. You’ve got about a 90 percent chance of seeing this when you’re there.

There’s nothing for the kids to do.

Disneyland opened its doors on 17 July 1955 and has been putting smiles on the faces of both the young and old ever since. There’s also Universal Studios Hollywood and the Kidspace Children’s Museum to keep everyone entertained.

There’s no where to shop.

Sure, there’s Rodeo Drive, lined with high-end fashion boutiques and lifestyle stores – and lots of beautiful people. But everyone knows that. Head over to The Grove, the Hollywood & Highland Centre, and even Third Street Promenade in Santa Monica (near the beach!) for even more shopping options.

There’s just no culture.

LACMA is the largest art museum in the western United States. Take that culture vultures!

The beaches look like this. So dirty.

A typical day at El Matador Beach. There’s also Manhattan Beach, Santa Monica Beach and – of course – Venice Beach to choose from.

The nightlife is boring.

Whether it’s a funky beachside pub you’re after, or a dimly lit underground dive bar, Los Angeles has you sorted. Head on over to Hollywood Blvd and the Sunset Strip for classic LA bar-hopping experiences, or to Santa Monica, Hermosa Beach or Downtown for a more laid back, cocktail lounge vibe.

There’s no nature in LA.

Beautiful botanical garden at the Huntington Library. A world away from the hustle and bustle of downtown Los Angeles.

I won’t learn anything there.

J. Paul Getty Museum was opened in 1974 and features Western art from the Middle Ages to the present. There’s an impressive Van Gogh collection inside, too.

So are you ready to head over to LA and find out if the City of Angeles is worth striving for?
