Peru – it has ancient culture, stunning historic sites, award-winning gastronomy and it even has some of the best Instagrammable spots in the world.

Here are the five best places to snap a few pics in the South American destination:

5. Huacachina dunes

Huacachina  dunes, in Ica, are the perfect spot for adventures seekers and one of the most popular spots for adventure travel in South America.

On a sandboard you can fly down the dunes at speeds of up to 50kph! Some thrill seekers will climb to the highest parts of the dunes in their sand buggies before flying down.

The area is home to the highest dune in the world: Cerro Blanco, and the changing sand dunes make for brag worthy images.

4. Nazca Lines

Nazca

These ancient geoglyphs in the Nazca desert take the form of animals, plants and geometric patterns and are etched into a 750 square-km area and are between 50 and 300 metres long.

The mystery of these geoglyphs lies in the complexity of the process need to create them – the drawings are very stylized and each is drawn with a single unbroken line. UNESCO designated them a World Heritage Site in 1994.

For the best view – and the best photos –  you’ll need to take a small plane over the lines.

3. Maras and Moray

Maras

The famous Maras salt mines are located in the Sacred Valley, just north of Cusco, and are a photographers dream. The bright white salt contrasted against the mountain backdrop makes for a spectacular photo.

Neighbouring archaeological site Moray, is an ancient amphitheatre, with complex terracing system, complete with irrigation using aqueducts, that shows sophistication of the Incan civilization – be careful taking selfies!

2. Selfie with a llama

llamas

So it’s not really a place but who can resist these gorgeous but funny looking creatures?

The llamas are a relative of the camel, and it’s not unusual to see them wandering the streets of Cusco, or even through the terraces of the citadel of Machu Picchu. They were used by the people living in the Andes to transport goods, and their wool is used to make clothing. You can’t go home from Peru without a photo of a llama! #llamaselfie

1. Machu Picchu

We couldn’t go past Machu Picchu for the Number 1 spot could we? From the stunning panoramic shot of the terraces, to a photo through the Sun Gate, to a magical shot with nobody else in view, you could upload dozens of photos of Machu Picchu and still watch those ‘likes’ climb! #BucketList
