Airbnb has a knack for surprising us with its quirky listings, but this one might take the cake: The Great Wall of China. And, no we are not pulling your leg.
If you don’t believe us, you can take a look at the new listing for yourself here.
They have even imbued the 21,000-kilometre wall with its own personality.
“Hi, I am the Great Wall of China. But some call me one of the seven wonders of the world. I’ve lived here for thousands of years, so I’ve witnessed countless sunrises and sunsets, endured the ups and downs of this great land, and met with all kinds of people from all over the globe.”
The Great Wall of China
“You could say I’ve seen it all. I look forward to welcoming you to my place. I have so much to show you, my honoured guests. Welcome to my home!”
So now you need to know what sort of accommodation you’ll be staying in, right?
No, you won’t be setting up a sleeping bag on the uneven steps. Airbnb has a custom-designed home situated on an ancient part of the Wall.
Located in a tower along the wall, the bedroom comes with panoramic views of the forest surrounding it.
Along with the listing, Airbnb has launched a competition, giving four lucky winners and their chosen guests a night on the Great Wall.
Guests will enjoy a multi-course gourmet Chinese dinner before falling asleep under the stars.
In the morning, embark on a sunrise hike through the countryside while learning about the Great Wall.
Ah, amazing!
Oh, Airbnb has set out some rules though, like respecting your neighbours (all 1.38 billion of them) and avoiding the temptation to scale, skip, jump over, crawl under, or run the length of the wall
If you see any dragons, Airbnb advises not to disturb them, but be sure to report it on WeChat or Instagram.
To win the chance to stay, you will need to tell Airbnb why it’s important to break down barriers between cultures and how you want to build new connections
