SLING WHAT? The most famous hotel in the world, Raffles Singapore, is getting a $200 million dollar restoration but don’t worry, it won’t lose its existing charm. Singapore slings here we come.
Accor hosted an exclusive star-studded affair this week with famous faces such as Kerri-Anne Kennerly, David Koch, Larry Emdur and the who’s who of the industry (including KARRYON of course), during which they gave thanks to the trade for their support and announced a major restoration of Raffles Singapore.
“What we find to be most important is to be a strong domestic great Australian company with international strength”
Simon McGrath, COO of AccorHotels Asia Pacific
“We listen to our partners and laugh with our partners and at times we argue but at the end of the day we will always be there, we will always be upfront and we will always talk and communicate to you and will resolve differences very quickly”
The message was clear from all members of AccorHotels that the future is uncertain but what is certain, is that the support will always be there.
The night saw a performance from the divas of Priscilla Queen Of The Desert and was truly a night to socialise, relax and enjoy the 27 years of Accor hospitality that has shined in Australia and the Pacific.
Thanks and more thanks were flying from all areas of the room and when you thought it was over, you hear the announcement.
“The next great icon is going to be a re-opening. It’s going to be a restoration of Raffles Singapore”.
Michael Issenberg, Chairman and COO Accor Asia Pacific
The crowd went wild and we pictured ourselves having a Singapore sling with Kerry-Anne. Now that’d be an interesting chat. See you’re thinking that too now. Maybe.
Raffles Singapore is a tourist magnet and is found on everyone’s list. The most famous hotel opened in 1887 and is one of the few remaining 19th-century hotels in the world.
It began as a 10 room bungalow style building that once offered the aspect of the South China Sea to now being the most renowned hotel in the world.
The property has been closed in phases and Accor is due to re-open this magnificent landmark early 2019.
