Minor Hotels to open first Anantara hotel in Australia with 150-room Perth property

Minor Hotels has signed its first Australian Anantara property, a 150-room luxury hotel set to anchor the $3.8 billion Burswood Point development on Perth's Swan River waterfront when it opens in 2032.

Minor Hotels has signed its first Australian Anantara property, a 150-room luxury hotel set to anchor the $3.8 billion Burswood Point development on Perth’s Swan River waterfront, opening in 2032.

The announcement marks the first time the Thai-inspired luxury brand has entered the Australian market.

Anantara Perth Hotel will join a global collection of more than 50 Anantara properties, and sit alongside the company’s existing Australian portfolio of more than 60 hotels under its Oaks Hotels, Resorts & Suites and Avani Hotels & Resorts brands.

The hotel is being developed by Golden Sedayu, a partnership between Perth’s Golden Group and Indonesian property developer Agung Sedayu. It will feature 150 guest rooms and suites, two restaurants, a swimming pool, fitness centre and an Anantara Spa.

Anantara Perth will anchor Burswood Point, a masterplanned precinct on the Swan River described by its developers as a 38-hectare site on the former Belmont Racecourse.

According to Golden Sedayu, the broader project is expected to inject more than $10 billion into the Western Australian economy and generate 25,700 jobs over the coming decade. The precinct sits just 3.5 kilometres from Perth’s CBD and within a short drive of the city’s domestic and international airports.

Construction is already underway on other elements of the precinct. According to Golden Sedayu, luxury apartments at Somerset at Burswood Point are due for completion in late 2027, with riverfront homes anticipated in early 2028. The hotel itself is expected to open in 2032.

What does it mean for Minor Hotels in Australia?

Minor Hotels already operates more than 60 properties across Australia under its select-service Oaks and premium Avani brands. The company has been steadily expanding its Australian footprint, with the first Australian Avani hotel opening on the Sunshine Coast and Australia’s first NH Hotel set to open at Sydney Airport in 2026.

Anantara Perth represents a step up to the luxury tier. Dillip Rajakarier, Group CEO of Minor International, the parent company of Minor Hotels, said Perth’s rapid development made it the right market for the brand’s Australian debut. “We are delighted to introduce Anantara to Australia,” he said.

“Perth is experiencing rapid development across its urban and tourism landscape, creating the ideal environment for a property of this standard. Anantara Perth represents our commitment to expanding world-class luxury experiences into new markets.”

Who’s behind the development?

Golden Sedayu’s Managing Director Andrew Sugiaputra said the partnership with Minor Hotels would deliver a landmark for Perth. “We are proud to partner with Minor Hotels to bring Anantara to Australia,” he said.

“Together we will deliver a landmark luxury hotel for Perth, defined by exceptional design, craftsmanship, and service.” The hotel’s design will incorporate contemporary architecture and sustainable building practices, according to Minor Hotels.

The broader Burswood Point precinct is one of the largest urban development projects currently underway in Australia. Perth’s growing role as a gateway to Western Australia’s natural assets, from wineries to wildlife and coastal landscapes, adds to the hotel’s potential appeal for both domestic and international travellers.

Anantara Hotels & Resorts operates more than 50 properties worldwide, with the brand known for its Thai-inspired approach to hospitality and wellness. Recent openings have included new properties across Asia and Europe, while the parent company Minor Hotels says it now operates more than 550 properties across 57 countries.

For Perth, the signing adds to a growing luxury hotel pipeline in a city that has historically had fewer high-end international hotel brands compared to Sydney and Melbourne.

Anantara Perth will compete alongside the likes of Ritz-Carlton Perth and COMO The Treasury in what is becoming an increasingly competitive top-tier market.
