HX Expeditions to invest millions in ship upgrades

HX Expeditions will invest more than A$11.5 million in refurbishments on two of its most popular smaller ships, MS Fram and MS Spitsbergen.

HX Expeditions will invest more than A$11.5 million in refurbishments on two of its most popular smaller ships, MS Fram and MS Spitsbergen.

The two ships will undergo refurbishment in a dry dock in Spain over the next two months, returning to service in April for MS Spitsbergen and May for MS Fram.

HX Expeditions CEO Gebhard Rainer says by blending modern advancements with a legacy of exploration, “HX Expeditions continues to redefine expedition travel for a new generation of explorers”.

New science centres and refreshed rooms

HX Expeditions’ first purpose-built polar expedition ship, MS Fram will get a new “state-of-the-art” science centre, refurbishments to 19 Arctic Superior cabins, 14 Expedition Suites, six Expedition Grand Suites and all Polar Cabins. Aune Restaurant will also be updated.

MS Spitsbergen will undergo a series of upgrades designed to “enhance comfort, accessibility, and operational efficiency”.

Along with a new science centre, all Polar Cabins will be upgraded with new bathrooms and the Explorer Bar will be redesigned.

A new bistro will be added with snacks available all day, and new interpreter “setups” will allow guests to listen to science and educational talks in multiple languages.

Crew areas on both ships are also being updated.
