The overhaul is part of a more than AU$12 million refurb by HX Expeditions of both MS Spitsbergen and MS Fram, and sees a new bistro and state-of-the-art science centre on the 220-guest ship.
HX Expeditions’ MS Spitsbergen will debut her new multi-million-dollar look for the summer Arctic season, sailing in and around Svalbard, before continuing east for winter, when HX Expeditions will return to its homeland of Norway.
As well as a new brasserie-style dining venue and state-of-the-art science centre, the ship has also had a refreshed exterior in HX’s updated Indigo Blue and Sand livery.

Wining and dining
The Brygga Bistro, a new informal, brasserie-style dining concept, is located on Deck 5 and part of HX’s fleetwide all-inclusive offering, which became standard across all of its ships in November 2024.
HX Hotel Operations Vice President Stefan Engl says, “By offering a seamless, high-quality alternative to traditional dining hours, Brygga enhances the onboard atmosphere – bringing comfort and accessibility to guests in a way that feels natural and refined”.

The Explorer Lounge & Bar has also had an entirely refreshed interior, and updated seating for guests relaxing after a day of excursions and science-focused expeditions.
The adjoining Explorer Bar now serves HX’s new Signature Cocktail Range – 14 handcrafted drinks inspired by the company’s pole-to-pole itineraries.

MS Spitsbergen will operate all-inclusive sailings from January to March above the Arctic Circle with the launch of HX’s new seven-day ‘Ultimate Norway – Arctic Expedition under the Northern Lights’ expedition.
Inspired by the concept of friluftsliv, the Norwegian philosophy of embracing life outdoors, guests will explore remote fjords through small-boat landings, community visits, hiking, kayaking, snowshoeing, fishing and whale watching.
