Luxury Unpacked: Kamalaya GM Gopal Kumar on why it refuses to follow the crowd when it comes to wellness

On this week's episode of Luxury Unpacked podcast, host Fiona Dalton talks to Kamalaya GM and Wellness Director Gopal Kumar about how Kamalaya refuses to follow trends and what longevity really means.

On this week’s episode of Luxury Unpacked podcast, host Fiona Dalton talks to Kamalaya GM and Wellness Director Gopal Kumar about how Kamalaya refuses to follow trends and what longevity really means.

“People think longevity is a new word, but to us it’s one of the core principles… it means absence of illness, and (using) preventive methods for better health, rather than ‘I’m going to live to 100, but my last 25 years are bad’,” says Gopal Kumar.

He says the multi-award-winning wellness sanctuary and holistic spa in Koh Samui refuses to follow trends and instead focuses on prevention.

“We’re not competing with others, we are about luxury in a natural setting, it’s not glittery… luxury is space and nature and getting away from the hustle and bustle and noises.

“We remain true to our DNA and longevity is important because prevention matters and you’re working to a healthier life span, and that’s where you can explore life’s potential.”

And Kumar says it’s also never too late to start, regardless how old you are.

“Start any movement because that’s where you’re creating a longevity pathway for your body… and declutter from what is around to help yourself to decompress.”

Kumar says Kamalaya’s philosophy is also based on research-based science, marrying both East and West.

“There’s a science behind what the cells are doing. We marry that with nutrition, movement and sleep. It’s important people understand diet and movement are key to reducing inflammation, and our detox cuisine targets that.”

Kumar says for those serious about their well-being, you should also focus on having harmony in life.

“I recommend people to live in harmony with yourself… you need to disconnect, and don’t fear this. You should not be worrying about others; it’s about de-cluttering from the outside world.”

He says gratitude will take you a long way to longevity, and while it’s nice to stay at nice places, and go to big cities, “deeper immersion is important”.
