Niyama Private Islands Maldives, in the Dhaalu Atoll, has reopened after a complete transformation across the five-star, dual-island resort.
A surfer’s paradise, Minor Hotel’s Niyama Private Islands Maldives is the only five-star surf resort in the archipelagic country, with its own wave breaking right onto the shore at Vodi Point.
Each of the 134 beach and overwater bungalows spread across the two islands has now had a renovation including “expanded interiors, lightened palette, all-new furnishings, and sleek technology”.
Bungalows were designed to blend with the surrounds, with floor-to-ceiling glass doors opening directly onto the beach, or private sundeck, and outdoor bathing.

Time to dine
The avant-garde restaurant Nest has been redesigned and landscaped to fully immerse guests in the jungle and offers a teppanyaki and spice of Southeast Asia-inspired menu.
Six metres below the ocean’s surface, Subsix is the world’s first underwater Nikkei tasting experience, where reef sharks and sea turtles circle above.
Surf Shack, a hideaway on the very western tip, has also been expanded – sit here to hear the surf and beats of the DJ.

While away the day
While surfing is king when it comes to activities, there’s also a new marine centre for hands-on conservation activities led by the resident marine biologist.
The Kids’ Club has also evolved with a splash park in a clearing of the jungle, a climbing wall, slides, and trampolines.
Daily schedules are packed with no end of activities off screens like snorkelling and sailing with dolphins while adults surf, go fishing, have spa treatments, or take a tour on a private luxury dhoni.
Niyama Private Island Maldives General Manager Hafidh Al Busaidy says, “At Niyama, we want our guests to feel free to explore, play and connect with kindred spirits and nature on their own terms”.
“To that end, every detail has been rethought through, and facilities and experiences evolved.”
