Luxury country retreat Mar Hall Golf & Spa Resort has just opened its doors after a $41 million renovation.

The highly anticipated reopening has seen the 19th-century Glasgow estate hotel with an 18-hole golf course transformed into a 74-room and suite luxury hotel with a 22-person private cinema.

Set within 97 hectares of manicured gardens, guests can choose from classic rooms to grand suites with lounges, grand pianos or pool tables.

Wining and dining

The “social heart” of Mar Hall, The Gallery has a new marble-topped champagne bar perfect for a pre-dinner cocktail, reading nooks and a grand piano, while earlier in the day join the property’s signature ‘afternoon tea’ curated by award-winning Executive Pastry Chef, Szilard Szentesi.

Slàinte bar is the spot for all manner of cocktails using local ingredients, including ‘The 180’ — a floral twist on the classic whisky sour, crafted in celebration of Mar Hall’s 180-year heritage. Afterwards, head to the Dining Room for à la carte cuisine focused on local Scottish produce.

While away your day

For wellness lovers, the spa has six treatment rooms set along low-lit corridors, a 20-metre swimming pool, saunas and steam rooms.

Golfers can play on the championship golf course against the backdrop of the Kilpatrick Hills and River Clyde, or for something to get the adrenaline going, there are off-road 4X4 excursions, axe-throwing and clay pigeon shooting.

To take in the sweeping views, choose helicopter tours over the highlands and remote Scottish Isles.

Further plans are also underway for private woodland lodges, enhancements to the clubhouse and “further developments” to the luxury spa.
