Once a private estate, the 19th-century Precise Tale Poggio Alla Sala has officially opened its doors after a two-year restoration.

Following a soft opening last year, Precise Tale Poggio Alla Sala near the Italian medieval hilltop town of Montepulciano, has now officially opened its doors.

Set among vineyards, ancient cypresses, and rolling Tuscan countryside, the 71-room and suite hotel was once the cherished estate of the Bonci-Casuccini family, and has been painstakingly restored to its former glory.

Tracing history

The design ethos of this sprawling estate was inspired by the ancient Silk Road, to blend old-world charm and contemporary elegance, weaving together Eastern and Western motifs.

Every aspect was carefully considered from the terracotta floors, handmade brick vaults, exposed chestnut beams and ornate wrought iron railings, to the arched doors and windows.

Modern additions include the hotel’s spa and a state-of-the-art gym that overlooks the Italian landscape. There are also three outdoor pools and a kids club.

Environmental initiatives include electric car charging stations, while water from an onsite well is used for gardening and solar panels. The property is also plastic-free.

At La Via Della Seta restaurant Chef, Ronen Dovrat Bloch, has paid homage to the cultural exchange and culinary diversity of the Silk Road in his dishes, fusing oriental and Italian flavours.

But, before the main event, ensure guests take the time to have a cocktail at Marco Polo Bar to soak up the Tuscan views over the valley towards Montepulciano.
