Qantas has unveiled its new classic French-inspired menu, limited-edition pyjamas and amenity kits as it prepares to say ‘bon voyage’ with the launch of its new direct services between Perth and Paris.
The airline will become the only carrier to offer direct flights between Perth and Paris, adding more than 75,000 seats between Australia and Europe each year.
Catriona Larritt, Qantas Group Chief Customer and Digital Officer said the new onboard items created for the Paris flights will kickstart European summer holidays for customers from the moment they step on the aircraft.
“Our new direct Perth to Paris flights will cut around three hours off the current fastest travel time between the two cities and are shaping up to be really popular, particularly during the busy summer months,” she said.
Karryon popped into Qantas HQ in Sydney’s Mascot for a preview of the new French menu, created by Neil Perry, Qantas Creative Director of Food, Beverage and Service.
Speaking at the event, Perry said that Paris is the easiest city in the world to fall in love with.
“In 1984 when I went to Paris for the first time, I was blown away by the ingredients and the produce. Paris has always been such a dream and so to be asked to produce a menu inflight and to be here today…. it’s not really a chore when somebody says to you, ‘how would you like to do a French menu’? Gastronomy in France is extraordinary – with the amount of amazing, iconic dishes that you get to choose from. One of my personal favourites, because it flies so beautifully, is the bouillabaisse with the incredible Skull Island prawns,” said Perry at the event.
The new menu items that will celebrate the start of the new Paris flights include beef fillet with pomme puree, snow peas and Café de Paris butter; Fresh tuna Nicoise salad with olives, green beans, and lemon dressing; coq au vin with pancetta, mushrooms, potato puree and snow peas; duck and pistachio pâté en croûte with cornichons, radishes and watercress; and rum Savarin with berries and chantilly cream.
A French 75 cocktail will be available on the Paris flights to business class passengers, created from gin, lemon and sparkling wine.
French bistro favourites including crème caramel and goats cheese salad with walnut vinaigrette will also be on offer across selected Qantas first and business lounges throughout Australia.
Business class customers travelling on the new Paris route will receive limited-edition pyjamas with matching French-inspired amenity kits created by Australian designer, Martin Grant.
In other news for the airline, Qantas was recently approved to commence daily flights to Vanuatu; and earlier this month, it celebrated 75 years of flying to Hong Kong.
