In a time when there has been negative press around travel agents it’s refreshing to see a positive news story emerge.
Early in 2015 roomsXML quietly launched ‘Real Rewards’ where agents are rewarded with Coles Myer vouchers.
But there’s more, as explained by Mark Luckey, MD roomsXML Asia Pacific.
“Agents told us straight up they wanted meaningful incentives. We wanted to deliver not only that but to create something extra, new opportunities.”

“If agents earn $100 worth of vouchers, they can ask roomsXML to donate $200 to supporting kid’s education in India. So the agent donates back, roomsXML matches the contribution and we have created something extra.
“We then collaborate with the agent to generate them business. With a media feeding frenzy on agencies like CTS going broke, the industry needs a good news story.
“The story here is about these agents who did just that; money out of their pocket back into the global community.”
In no particular order, the agents who participated are Departure Lounge Berwick, Goway Travel Sydney, Balwyn Travel, East Ivanhoe Travel & Cruise, Reho Travel and Boutique Travel Services Sydney. Several agents declined to be mentioned due to concerns on “non-preferred” arrangements.
Mark continues, saying he finds it ‘very gratifying’ to do business with travel agents like this because he believes their customers will see it the same way.
In total for the first quarter of the ‘Real Rewards’ program, nearly $3,000 was raised.
“It’s a good start. What’s amazing is just how many agents have their own causes and programs in place supporting World Vision, Oxfam, Nvader and so on.”
