Desert & Delta Safaris’ Savute Safari Lodge has reopened after a complete rebuild, offering a new level of luxury in one of Africa’s best-known big game areas.
Located in Savute, bordering the Delta and Chobe National Park, Savute Safari Lodge has 11 thatched chalets, and one family room, each designed to take in the breathtaking views of the abundant wildlife.
The traditional safari lodge-style design has a clean, contemporary feel, with a colour palette taking its cues from the Kalahari Desert.
Rooms have a combination of natural thatching and canvas, and private outdoor showers mean you can wash after a day on safari to a starlit sky.

Desert & Delta Safaris Sales and Marketing Manager, Stephen Frenkel says, “Savute is such an iconic safari destination, and the new Savute Safari Lodge offers guests a front-row seat to the wildlife of the unique and mysterious Savute region from an extremely comfortable and stylish lodge.
“The design and styles are distinctly different to other lodges in the Desert& Delta Safaris portfolio, ensuring each lodge exhibits its own individual character while upholding our commitment to local empowerment and warm, friendly and professional service.”

A front-row view
Frenkel says one of the main highlights is the communal space, which has been carefully reimagined to prioritise views over one of the most dramatic waterholes in Botswana.
“This unique waterhole has been featured in world-renowned wildlife documentaries, including National Geographic’s Savage Kingdom and the BBC’s Planet Earth series – truly one of the best ‘in-lodge’ wildlife experiences in Botswana.
“A new viewing hide consists of an elevated deck with a central fireplace that leads down to a sunken hide, allowing guests to get up close to wildlife and enjoy eye-level contact with huge herds of elephant, antelope and the occasional predator that move towards the waterholes.”

Wildlife abounds
The Savute area has one of the longest land-mammal migrations in the world, where zebra move from the north to the grasslands and full waterholes in the southwest.
Followed by large concentrations of lions, guests can also catch sightings of leopards and cheetahs, endangered wild dogs and hyenas.
As one of the original safari operators in Botswana, the Desert & Delta Safaris circuit covers the Chobe National Park, the Okavango Delta and Okavango Panhandle, the world-renowned Moremi Game Reserve and the Boteti River on the border of the Makgadikgadi Pans National Park.
