The Rees Hotel Queenstown has promoted Micka McDonald to General Manager, effective immediately, as former CEO & GM Mark Rose continues as director of the award-winning South Island property, which is popular among Australian travellers.
McDonald has been a long-standing employee at The Rees Hotel Queenstown, holding various roles across her 10-year tenure.
After six years as Front Office Manager, she was promoted to Executive Assistant Manager in 2022 and brings more than 20 years’ hospitality experience and the support of the staff, executive team and board to her new role as GM.
During her time, McDonald and her team have helped position The Rees Hotel Queenstown as one of the premier luxury hotels in Queenstown and New Zealand.

Rose, who has served as General Manager and CEO since the property’s opening in 2009, will oversee sales, marketing, yield and expansion, working closely with McDonald and will retain his shareholding in the management company.
Of McDonald’s appointment, Rose said: “I am delighted with Micka’s appointment, she absolutely gets our culture, values our people and will make an excellent General Manager. I look forward to working closely with Micka and continuing to contribute to the success and growth of The Rees Hotel.”

Chair Bruce Davidson said: “Our people are our greatest asset. Micka is a strong team leader with a wealth of experience, longevity with our company and is invested in the strong corporate culture and knowledge we have developed.”
“Mark will continue his excellent guidance and oversight in his new role. I look to them to lead our team and The Rees Hotel into the next phase of its success with confidence and pride.”
