New $30M Hamilton Island boutique hotel The Sundays announced by qualia owners

The Sundays will make a splash as Hamilton Island’s newest luxe bolthole with a focus on family-friendly accommodation and activities in the heart of the Great Barrier Reef when it opens on Catseye Beach in autumn 2025 with bookings from late 2024.

The $30 million-plus 59-suite hotel is designed with families in mind and includes interconnecting rooms, an alfresco waterfront restaurant and bar and private cabanas around the pool.

Developed by Hamilton Island Enterprises, the team behind qualia, The Sundays’ interior aesthetic will reflect the tropical surrounds and water views around Hamilton Island – the Southern Hemisphere’s largest integrated island resort.

Guestrooms will sport a serene colour scheme and enjoy sea breezes over a choice of a balcony or terrace overlooking the Coral Sea and hotel gardens.

Hamilton Island Enterprises Chair Sandy Oatley said The Sundays responds to guest feedback for more family-focused boutique accommodation and will complement luxury resorts qualia and Beach Club and family-friendly Reef View Hotel and Palm Bungalows in the holiday hotspot.

Hamilton Island CEO Pete Brulisauer said the island has seen a strong increase in domestic tourists seeking a luxury island escape without international travel as well as overseas visitors keen to experience the Great Barrier Reef.
