Brisbane’s uber-popular and stylish The Calile Hotel is the only property in Australia and New Zealand to make it onto the inaugural World’s 50 Best Hotels list, coming in at number 12, and also named the Best Hotel in Oceania.
Part of TFE Hotels, The Calile (pronounced “Cal-isle”) in Fortitude Valley, which opened in late 2018, received the accolade in an invitation-only ceremony at London’s The Guildhall on 20 September 2023.
The World’s 50 Best Hotels list was curated by more than 580 independent leaders and experts in the international hotel scene.
Voting criteria were based on selecting seven hotel experiences considering every operational element from first contact point to room comfort, food and beverage, onsite facilities and check-out.
Lake Como’s Passalacqua was number one on The World’s 50 Best Hotels list – one of two Italian properties in the top 10 – and two Hong Kong hotels made it into the top 10 as well.
The Calile Hotel General Manager Rob Unson said the accolade was a fitting fifth birthday present for the 175-room boutique hotel and a testament to the professionalism of the hotel team.
Co-Owner Catherine Malouf said she was extremely proud to represent the Malouf family and employees at such a significant celebration.
“This is a win for our team, our collaborators, our loyal guests and for Brisbane as a destination and we are humbled to represent the Australian hotel industry on the world stage,” she said.
“There is no doubt The Calile Hotel has carved a name for itself and sparked a trend in ‘urban resorts’ with its bold architectural commitment, sustainable practises and by embracing its local and sub-tropical climate within an urban setting.”
