Waldorf Astoria Osaka, on the top floors of the South Park Tower skyscraper in the heart of the city, has four dining and bar venues, a library, and a “world-class” wellness centre.

The Waldorf Astoria Osaka design ethos pays homage to both Osaka’s historic castles and temples and its sleek contemporary skyscrapers.

Inside is a traditional Japanese pavilion with oak posts and bronze screens and a monumental ceramic sculpture by Japanese artist Jun Kaneko.

A 20-metre-long-passageway, The Arcade is lined with layered timber archways, bronze frames and wall-mounted shoji lanterns.

At the far end, two glasshouses feature tsubaki (camellia) trees, while nine metre-high panoramic windows provide 180-degree views of Osaka.

Hilton Vice President of Luxury Brands, Asia Pacific, Candice D’Cruz says, “The debut in Japan marks a defining moment for Hilton’s luxury portfolio in Asia Pacific”.

“From the legendary Waldorf Astoria New York – an enduring symbol of luxury and sophistication – to this exceptional new address in Osaka, we are expanding a legacy built on timelessness, innovation, and intuitive service.”

She says Hilton is proud to collaborate with architect Andre Fu, “whose visionary design brings a fresh perspective to Waldorf Astoria’s timeless elegance”.

“From the bespoke furnishings to the thoughtful spatial design, every detail reflects a commitment to effortless luxury, creating an unparalleled experience that is both deeply rooted in tradition and distinctly modern.”

Wining and dining

Inspired by Waldorf Astoria’s original bar in New York, the hotel’s lobby lounge, Peacock Alley has triple-height ceilings with four grand chandeliers. Marble mosaic flooring depicts peacock feathers, and bronze mirror panels give an old New York glamour feel.

Adjacent to Peacock Alley, Canes & Tales, is inspired by a speakeasy bar, with a central runway-shaped marble bar, surrounded by hand-painted tiles depicting Osaka maps.

While Jolie Brasserie is a modern French brasserie on the 29th floor, housed within an airy glasshouse.

The suite spot

Each of the 252 guest rooms on the 31st floor (or higher) has floor-to-ceiling windows to take in city and bay views.

Japanese Kumiko headboards, designed on hand-dyed washi paper, have art déco geometries in another nod to the local culture.

And when wellness calls, there’s a “world-class” wellness centre in the Waldorf Astoria Spa which was inspired by traditional Japanese ryokans.

Expect multiple treatment rooms, hot springs, steam rooms and saunas, and a 25-metre swimming pool on the 30th floor, with views across Osaka Bay.
