For personal travel manager Joanne Haines, representative for Berwick, travelling has always been a passion. Haines knew from a very young age a travel career was for her.

“I credit my love of travelling to my parents. As far back as I can remember we had a summer holiday every year. Our holidays were not necessarily grand or far, but always somewhere different. When I was 19 I headed off on my own to Europe for ten weeks where I did my first European Contiki Tour. It was that point I knew travel and exploring the world was what I wanted to do. I then left Australia when I was 22 and nine years later I returned home to Australia having lived in Hong Kong, Denmark and Germany, travelling extensively through Asia and Europe,” says Haines.

Having spent many years with traditional travel companies, five years ago Haines became a personal travel manager with TravelManagers and has never looked back.

“One of the main reasons for joining TravelManagers was purely around the flexibility it offered me. Being a home-based consultant gives me the freedom to go above and beyond for my clients. Having the freedom to tailor-make each itinerary to suit my clients’ needs is what personal service is all about. I love that there’s no one size fits all,” she says.

Haines certainly delivers on the TravelManagers’ philosophy of providing personal and consistent client service.

“I can personally recommend places to visit and experience, restaurants to eat at, and where to get the best ice cream in Copenhagen, and I can even tell you which bus to get to Stanley Market in Hong Kong. It is the personal experience that clients have come to appreciate and that I treat their holiday as though it was my own,” she says.

Haines has also come to appreciate the TravelManagers support network, including that of her local state-based business partnership manager.

“The personal travel managers throughout Australia receive the local support of six state-based business partnership managers. We recognise behind the scenes central and local state-based support providing technology, training, marketing, fares together with 24/7 full access to mid and back-office processes adds huge value,” says TravelManagers’ Executive General Manager Michael Gazal.

Gazal says Haines epitomises TravelManagers’ philosophy of turning every single transaction into a long-term client relationship.

“Joanne’s ability to engage her clients with such a personal approach is a real inspiration to all personal travel managers. By viewing each opportunity as a client for life, Joanne’s growing client base provides this personal concept really works,” he says.
