Young Aussie travellers are cutting back on alcohol consumption and turning to TikTok for travel planning, according to StudentUniverse.

Australians 18-25 are limiting alcohol consumption while travelling and relying heavily on TikTok for vacation planning, according to the latest report by StudentUniverse, an international online travel retailer for young people.

StudentUniverse Brand Manager Will Jones said this is the second year the travel retailer has released the travel trends after surveying young Australians through its networks.

“Our report has revealed Japan to be at the forefront of the most desired destinations to visit among young Australians, and this demand is reflected in our own booking data: bookings between Australia and Japan from January to March are up 55% on the same period last year,” he said.

“In terms of travel inspiration, TikTok has emerged as the undisputed heavyweight of Gen Z social platforms, and we have also found AI is playing an increasingly significant role when it comes to building travel itineraries.”
