iPhone 6 wait over but will it attract travellers?

Apple has finally unveiled their new generation iPhones and a smart watch to boot but it’ll need to pass a few tests before it’s travel worthy.

The wait is over. “Hurrah!” We hear you say.

Apple has finally released their next generation iPhones (iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus) and a smart watch (available in early 2015), signifying the first products released under Chief Executive Officer, Tim Cook.

Along with a wider screen on the iPhone Plus and the new-crew wrist gizmo, Apple has also revealed a new mobile payments system, Apple Pay, that will allow people to make purchases by holding a phone near a sensor.

Thus far, the reaction to the launch has been mixed.

Many of the tech-obsessed have claimed that the new releases, particularly the wider screens, have reestablished Apple as an industry trail-blazer.

Others haven’t approved of the watch, stating that it was created in favour  of the right handed. Apple was quick to issue a rebuttal to Newscorp, claiming that the phones will be able to be worn by both ‘lefties’ and ‘righties’.

The most ungracious response was from the markets. Apple shares dipped, 0.38 per cent, after the release. However, they picked up slightly after Apple Pay was announced.

Yet, while the tech jury is still out on whether the new generation of Apple will be the best thing since sliced bread, travellers will also be weighing in on the decision, too.

There are least three factors the phone will need to fulfil to get our attention:

1. Longer battery life

Travellers are tired of missing out on #picoftheday due to dead batteries. A battery that can withstand a day’s worth of swipes, posts and prods will get you a gold star.

2. Uncrushable screen

War wounds can be sexy but a shattered screen after dropping your phone into an outhouse in Mexico is unthinkable. With nowhere to fix it and now chance to glue it back together, a crushed screen can leave travellers with unreadable maps and no way to phone home.

3. Better camera capabilities

We don’t want to take photos that look like iPhone photos. We want our holiday snaps to look like they were taken by the hands of Leibovitz herself. A camera. A camera with a lens so sharp you can pick up coins at the bottom of the Adriatic will get us into the mood.
