Agents: This is how you can have your cake and eat it too!

Be your own boss, achieve your financial goals and spend more time with your family – is that even possible? It is indeed, and all it requires is a little entrepreneurial spirit.

Be your own boss, achieve your financial goals and spend more time with your family – is that even possible? It is indeed, and all it requires is a little entrepreneurial spirit.

And the right support behind you, of course.

TravelManagers (TMA) has been supporting Travel Agents to become the master of their destinies for years, helping them take the reins of their travel businesses and achieving a better work/life balance.

But what is life as a Personal Travel Manager (PTM) with TMA actually like day-to-day?

Today we’re going to speak to Sarena Taylor, who, in addition to being a very successful PTM is  a super mum with three children under five years.

How does she do it all you ask? Read on to find out.

What do you love about TMA and the support they give you?

I love the fact that the National Partnership Office (NPO) can support me in all areas of my business. Everyone is helpful and efficient and it doesn’t matter where I am, I know they are just a call or email away. Aligning myself with TMA has allowed me to offer a superior service to my customers with the strong supplier agreements and support structure offered.

What drives your passion for both travel and your family?

My passion for travel is driven by my own amazing adventures travelling the world from a young age, so I love to share my knowledge and experience to create enriching holiday experiences for my clients. Coupled with exceptional service and attention to detail, I believe this is an invaluable service. My family drives me to continue doing what I love, generating a good income at the same time as being a wife and mother to three children. Having a supportive husband and working as a team has certainly been helpful for me.

How do you juggle motherhood and running a successful business?

It can certainly be tough juggling the demands of a family with the necessity of generating an income. However, no one said it was going to be easy, and what I’ve found is when I’m organised (which involves good time management) I become more productive. I’ve also found that when I’m more productive I create the results I am looking for, and these results help me feel much more fulfilled! It’s also vital for me to keep a consistent routine with my children so that I have the time for each of them as well as time to devote to my business.

How does being a PTM allow you to spend more time with your family?

Because I work from home, I don’t have to travel to and from work, which is a huge time saver. Being a PTM is especially great during school holidays when I can be flexible to work around the children and their activities. I love the fact that I can be at home raising my baby girl and not miss a moment, all whilst growing a business.

Growing your business – what is your secret to being a successful PTM?

The secret for me is in providing exceptional service to my clients, showing initiative and going that extra mile. To stay motivated and driven I like to immerse myself into personal development so I can continue to grow myself and therefore grow my business.

Lastly, what’s your advice to other entrepreneurial mothers out there? Can they have their cake and eat it too?

Believe in yourself and never let your own self-doubts or those of others drag you down and stop you from achieving what you truly desire. We all have an opportunity to make something of our lives, and my advice is to get out of your comfort zone and show yourself what is possible – with determination and perseverance you too can create a life of freedom and choice. And don’t let having kids stop you from succeeding in business: instead, make your children your reason for being an entrepreneur!
