American Airlines' new safety video is so trippy, we love it

Qantas has us patiently waiting for the Aussie hottie in its very Australian safety video, Air New Zealand teamed up with a few ‘Men in Black‘ to spread its message, while Turkish Airlines hired a few superheroes.

However, American Airlines may have just overtaken some of the best inflight safety videos, with its new clip, which is serious, fun, creative and so trippy all at once, that it’s kind of brilliant.

From the moment the clip opens, you can’t help but think, “umm what the…?” because the entire 4.20 clip is filmed in one consecutive shot and accompanied with some really interesting music.

If you listen carefully, you’ll notice that the music is compiled from a range of sounds American Airlines passengers will hear from the moment they enter the airport to when they board the plane.

A sound team went on board the airline’s Boeing 777-300 and filmed everything like the clicking sound of the seatbelt, the ‘dings’ you hear before flight crew or pilots make an announcement, there’s even the sound of the curtains and people moving through the airport.

Brian Deming, the airline’s Lead Composer, said the aim was to capture all the sounds guests will experience when travelling with American Airlines.

Impressive right?

Wait until you check out the imagery.

As mentioned, the safety video was filmed in one consecutive shot, this required a whole lot of smarts (and space) and creative techniques to ensure everything flowed smoothly.

The video opens with the airport experience, with people seemingly walking around with their luggage. But as the camera pans out, people are actually walking on walls… we mentioned it was trippy right?

The beautiful flight attendant then appears with her usual “welcome aboard” message and that’s when the creative visuals really take off.

As she makes her way from the ‘airport’ to the ‘plane’, blue and red suitcases come together to form the American Airlines tale.

She continues her ‘talk and stroll’, making her way past a range of white walls and mirrors, which come together to form the jetway and the aircraft door.

The room goes dark and in the background chairs slide into view to form the body of the aircraft where guests are getting ready for takeoff.

Two of the flight attendant’s friends help her with her seat belt, before the camera pans over to a female passenger, who demonstrates how ‘seats should be up and all electronic devices put away’.

Moving to one of the male guests, he attempts to use his mobile and light a smoke. However, a pair of almost creepy hands slide in from behind his seat to switch his phone to flight mode and remove the electronic cigarette from his mouth.

The camera then moves back to the flight attendant who runs through the safety card and plane exits with the help of a ‘human changing backdrop’.

I could continue to describe the video and giph it, or you could just check it out for yourself below.

Did you find it as trippy as we did?
