FLIGHTS CANCELLED OUT OF AUCKLAND DUE TO FUEL SHORTAGE

Auckland Airport says it’s working closely with airlines and airport stakeholders to accommodate thousands of people travelling to and from the gateway today who may be impacted by flight cancellations.

Some 27 domestic and international flights were cancelled over the weekend when a damaged fuel pipeline was found at Marsden Point fuel refinery, which is responsible for providing airlines with aviation fuel at the airport.

The refinery has advised the gateway that repair work is still ongoing and fuel will continue to be rationed among airlines today.

As a result, Auckland Airport’s Chief Executive Adrian Littlewood is urging travellers scheduled to depart from the airport over the coming days to plan ahead and contact their airline for latest flight information.

“We will have additional staff in the terminals supporting passengers and addressing any questions or concerns they may have.”
