Guy Sebastian brings the X-Factor to AirAsia

Maybe it was angels that brought them together (anyone else feeling old?), or (more likely) one really great marketing team, but AirAsia has landed Guy Sebastian as its ambassador for Australia.

Maybe it was angels that brought them together (anyone else feeling old?), or (more likely) one really great marketing team, but AirAsia has landed Guy Sebastian as its ambassador for Australia.

The budget airline received more than three yeses from trade and media last night in Sydney when it announced its new partnership with the pop singer (it helped that Guy played a little sumthin sumthin for attendees).

As part of the arrangement, Guy will promote the AirAsia brand and its services from Australia, while also showcasing some of his favourite Asian destinations (mainly those in the AirAsia network).

The AirAsia X Group’s Chief Executive, Datuk Kamarudin Meranun, said the company is “thrilled” to have “such a huge talent” on board and described the relationship with the singer as a “natural fit” not only because of Guy’s Malaysian roots but because of AirAsia’s history of working with entertainers and celebrities.

“Guy also embodies AirAsia’s values and ideals with his support of the community through charity work.”

In addition to announcing the arrangement, Guy took the opportunity last night to raise funds for The Sebastian Foundation, which works with charities and like-minded partners on various projects locally and internationally.

The ‘Battle Scars’ hit-maker told attendees that he’s excited to work with an airline that has many admirable aspects and an inspirational foundation.

“I love the story of how Tony Fernandes (who my Dad often gets mistaken for!) started the company and grew it to where it is today, but most of all I love the heart behind it.”

“Tony and the team do a great deal of charitable acts and the culture within the company is one where philanthropy is of a high priority.

“I look forward to this partnership and can’t wait to share some of the exciting things we have in store.”

From Australia, AirAsia X flies daily to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, from Perth (14 flights per week) Sydney (17 flights per week), Melbourne (18 flights per week), Gold Coast (11 flights per week) and Auckland (7 flights per week).

AirAsia Indonesia flies up to four times daily to Denpasar, Bali from Perth and four times weekly from Darwin.
