Not so Stranger Things: Aussie Netflixxers love to binge watch inflight

According to research just in, Aussie Netflixx’ers are now globally the biggest binge-watchers of all on flights at 61%.

Surprised? But why is that?

Apparently, the findings in the research stated that;

– Aussies seem to experience major issues with in-flight entertainment and so turn to Netflix for entertainment therapy.

– 32% of the time there is no in-flight entertainment for Aussie on planes (hello Jetstar), and when there is, 40% of Aussies have been unable to finish their show or movie because they were landing (Globally 25% and 29%).

– Aussies do appear to be extra friendly compared to the global average; when a stranger interrupts their binge-watching by starting a conversation (which happens 27% of the time), they are more likely to prioritise their binge over the stranger (18%) or ignore the person (22%) compared to the global average.

Netflix is also the number one brand in Australia that customers would recommend to a family or friend as revealed by YouGov BrandIndex in its Australian Brand Rankings for 2017.

Netflix led the way with a score of 75.5 and was followed closely by Singapore Airlines (71.3) and Emirates (67.9).

The streaming trend is set to fly higher

Qantas announces free LIVE streaming in the sky of all test cricket this summer

Given that more and more airlines are bringing in-flight wifi to the skies, including Qantas who just last week announced that they will be bringing the Ashes LIVE this summer as well as the option to stream Netflix, Stan, Spotify and Soundcloud for free, it appears this number will continue to rise as the trend becomes the norm.

Netflix and Stan also have the option to download selected shows before you leave so that you can watch them whenever you like from your own devices, even without wifi.

There is, however, some protocol watching Netflix inflight, with the guide below detailing the right way to binge watch.
