Travellers lucky enough to have booked themselves a Business Class seat on Qantas’ direct Perth-London flights will have access to innovative comfort both in the air and on land.

The Flying Kangaroo opened its first ever London Lounge at Heathrow Airport this week, ahead of the Qantas Dreamliner’s inaugural flight across the world.

According to the carrier’s boss, Alan Joyce, the lounge is “key” to the 787 services scheduled to take off on 24 March 2018.

Joyce explained that the lounge was designed with the extended 17.5-hour flight time in mind and expects it, along with the first Australia to Europe service, to reshape “what customers come to expect from international travel”.

“We have worked with leaders in design, food and service to create a lounge that is modern and comfortable and incorporates the aesthetics of the Qantas lounges that make our customers feel at home,” he said.

“It’s a long flight, so we’re taking a holistic approach to passenger wellbeing on and off the aircraft, and the new Heathrow lounge is an important part of that.”

So what can some 230 Qantas customers expect to find inside this brand new space?

Well, the lounge is split into two levels with each offered views of the airfield.

As per Qantas’ other international lounges, the Heathrow venue takes inspiration for food and interior design from the local region. This means that there’s a lot of rich blues and deep greens in the furniture, warm-coloured timbers, as well as stone and brass that reflect London’s historic architecture.

When it comes to food and dining, travellers will be able to have a pre-flight cocktail at the Marble Cocktail Bar on the upper level serving drinks designed by the Qantas Rockpool Mixologists.

There’s also a gin bar on the lower level alongside an all-day barista service.

Menus in the lounge have been designed by Rockpool with a Sofitel service experience, inviting customers to try á la carte service in the dining room with a selection of plates of the day.

Plus, there’s six shower suites with Aurora Spa amenities, business facilities including wi-fi and ‘Quench’ hydration station with tisane, fruit infused water and sparkling water.
