One reason Australia is pretty lucky to have Qantas around

What's the most important thing about air travel? Is it customer service? It's nice to be treated with respect, but it's not completely vital.

Comfort? It’s great, but again, not entirely crucial.

Edible food? I think most of us could go without eating for a few hours (or bring our own food on board).

Or how about punctuality? While being late is irritating, it’s a bearable annoyance.

No, the most important thing over everything else when it comes to flying is safety.

Lucky for us in Australia, we have an airline that hasn’t had any fatal crashes in its 96-year history, and is continually recognised for its exceptional work in ensuring passengers get from Point A to Point B without harm.

Qantas has been named ‘the world’s safest airline’ for the fourth year in a row, an achievement that shouldn’t go unappreciated or be underestimated because in order to achieve the AirlineRatings.com title, the carrier has to have passed and exceeded all other airlines in a rigorous analysis of the business’ safety efforts.

For example, it had to have passed several audits from aviation government bodies, audits by lead associations and government audits (wow the paperwork).

Additionally, Qantas’ crash and serious incident records needed to be practically spotless when compared to other airlines AND it has to have maintained a relatively young fleet age.

That’s a lot of investment and time spent ensuring its passengers remain safe, and we here in Australia are pretty lucky to be the home country to such an airline – Dustin Hoffman’s character in the 1988 movie, Rain Man, Raymond, would surely appreciate it.

AirlineRatings.com’s Editor, Geoffrey Thomas, said there’s no question that Qantas is still a leader in safety especially due to its leadership in safety enhancements and operational excellence.

“Over its 96-year history Qantas has amassed an amazing record of firsts in safety and operations and is accepted as the world’s most experienced airline.”

Virgin Australia and Air New Zealand also made the list of safety airlines.

So, we know Qantas is the ‘world’s safest airline’, but following closely behind were these carriers (alphabetical order): Air New Zealand, Alaska Airlines, All Nippon Airways, British Airways, Cathay Pacific Airways, Delta Air Lines, Etihad Airways, EVA Air, Finnair, Hawaiian Airlines, Japan Airlines, KLM, Lufthansa, Scandinavian Airline System, Singapore Airlines, Swiss, United Airlines, Virgin Atlantic and Virgin Australia.
