The carrier’s new Economy X Class took off 0ver the weekend, introducing more comfort and an enhanced flying experience as a hybrid of Business Class and Premium Economy.

Located in the first three rows of the Economy cabin across Virgin Australia’s fleet, a major highlight of the Economy X seat offering is that guests receive around three inches of extra legroom.

Footy players such as Carlton Football Club Captain’s Marc Murphy, who tested the new seats in person last week, said extra legroom was particularly exciting for the taller and bigger blokes as it provides “a lot more comfort on flights”.

Guests, in Economy X will also receive preferred overhead locker space, priority boarding and priority security screening – practically removing all queues.

On short-haul international and long haul international services, the new class replaces Economy Space+, and travellers booked on longer services not only receive the extra legroom and preferred locker space but also premium check-in, premium boarding, first meal choice and a noise-cancelling headset.

All this is worth loving, according to actress Rebel Wilson, who also got a first look at the new space during its launch last week.

Good news for Virgin Australia’s loyalty flyers, because the new class is free of charge for Velocity Frequent Flyer Platinum members. They will be offered the product as available, at any time from booking through check-in when flying on the Domestic or Short Haul International network, while their companions travelling on the same booking will also be eligible.

According to Virgin Australia Airlines’ Group Executive John Thomas, sales for the new product have been in high demand since going on sale earlier this year.

“Offering an enhanced travel experience on the ground and in the air, we are confident that once guests have tried Economy X they will continue to book this product.”

To mark the arrival of Economy X, players and officials from Carlton Football Club were recruited to feature in a new marketing campaign, which saw the team promote Economy X on the front of its jumper in their clash against Fremantle.
