A woman has passed away in the United States after she was partially sucked out of a plane window when the aircraft’s engine appeared to have exploded.

Flight 1380 was en-route from New York to Dallas when passengers say they heard an explosion followed by the breaking of the plane window on the left-hand side of Row 17. The woman sitting by the window was partially sucked out of the window but pulled back inside by nearby passengers.

Sadly, the woman passed by the time the aircraft had made its emergency landing at Philadelphia International Airport.

Southwest Airlines said in a Facebook post that it was deeply saddened to confirm the fatality and that it extends its deepest, heartfelt sympathy to Customers, Employees, Family Members, and loved ones affected by this tragic event.

“We have activated our emergency response team and are deploying every resource to support those affected by this tragedy.”
