Aussies take down the might of North America at Muri Beach Club Hotel.

Industry players from Australia and North America descended on The Cook Islands in early November, taking part in the annual KOCI tourism events.

Day after day they inspected resorts, visited attractions and toured the islands undertaking many meetings and attending to serious business matters.

But once business had been attended to at Muri Beach Club Hotel in Rarotonga, and the resort’s famed bacon-and-prawn Bloody Marys sampled, the very serious business of competitive sand sculpture took place – a classic battle between Australia and North America.

Conducted in a rapid tag-team format with sculpture done in 1-minute bursts, both teams presented highly inventive creations. But in a unanimous decision, the Muri Beach Club Hotel blue ribbon was awarded to the Aussies who sculpted a whale called Muri.

At the conclusion, both teams came together for a friendly photo-shoot, only to be photobombed by one the famous Muri Beach dogs.
