Viking Ocean Cruises’ second ocean vessel, Viking Sea, touched water for the first time last week, indicating she’s almost ready to welcome her first lot of cruisers.

The 930-passenger ship floated out of the Italian shipyard on Thursday for her first set of sea trials.

Viking Sea is scheduled to join Viking’s first ocean ship, Viking Star early next year. She will be followed by the company’s third ship, Viking Sky, which is current under construction and will debut in 2017.

All three vessels will be used on routes in Scandinavia and the Baltic as well as the Western and Eastern Mediterranean.

“Having just celebrated the launch of our first ocean cruise ship, we are pleased at the positive reviews she is receiving from our guests and travel industry partners.”

Torstein Hagen, Viking Cruises Founder & Chairman

“We have no doubt that her sister ship, Viking Sea, will be met with the same reception upon her debut next autumn.”

In addition to the float out, the company also revealed Karine Hagen, Viking’s Senior VP of Product, will be godmother to Viking Sea when she launches next year.
