First Thor & now Aquaman – should we start calling Queensland the Comic Capital of Australia?

Last week, the Sunshine State took one step closer to becoming the comic capital of Australia by securing itself a second comic movie in two years.

Warner Bros. confirmed it will film its first solo Aquaman movie on the Gold Coast in the coming year, just as Marvel and Disney wrap up shooting the third Thor movie, Thor Ragnarok.

The Australian government will have to spend some $22 million to properly accommodate the DC hero’s movie, however, in turn somewhere between 600-1,000 local jobs will be created and some $160 million is expected to be injected back into the local economy.

Additionally, if Jason Momoa, who will star as the undersea king, and his co-stars are as social media savvy as Chris Hemsworth and friends (which he certainly seems to be), then Queensland will likely receive a fair bit of online exposure to millions of his followers.

Federal Treasurer, Scott Morrison, said making movies is “core business for the Gold Coast” because it supports job and businesses.

Our decision to back in Thor was a marvel and so will be our decision to back Aquaman.”

‘Aquaman’ is scheduled to start filming early 2017 at the Village Roadshow Studios and will be out late 2018. The trident wielding hero was seen briefly in this year’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and will return for an official introduction in 2017’s Justice League movie.
