South Africa’s tourism leaders want more expats living down under to ‘come home’ and they figure the best way to do it is to take shots at Australia’s beloved tourism icons.
Ag (random South African filler sound), we reckon it’s gonna work because it’s lekker bru (good mate).
Tourism leaders aimed and fired sassy comparisons at practically everything Aussies hold near and dear in the viral video and as much as you want to loathe them for it… it’s too bloody hilarious.
You can’t help but giggle (and feel somewhat ashamed) when Comedian Robby Collins compares Australia’s Big 5…
… to South Africa’s.
*Face palms*
You’ll also feel a little…
… when he places a festive South African barbecue…
… alongside an Aussie barbie – a sausage, half hanging out of a slice of white bread and drenched in tomato sauce.
And he even went after our capital city, saying that we “don’t like it”…
… but South Africa has three so expats are “bound to like one”.
But oi Collins, not all our beaches are drenched in rain…
… and we may not have penguins lazing around our shores…
… but we do have… jawelnofine (yes, no, okay fine), you win that one too.

Yana Shvarts, Acting Country Manager, Australasia, South African Tourism said the video aims to celebrate all things South African and create a sense of “nostalgia in expats”.
“We have had an overwhelming response from the South African community in Australia sharing with us their reasons for missing their home country.”
Yana Shvarts, South African Tourism Acting Country Manager
“Our aim with the ‘Come Home Bru’ campaign was to celebrate all the things that makes South Africa an amazing place to visit.”
“To create nostalgia in expats, reminding them of the uniqueness, raw beauty and culture which makes their country a place worth visiting again, perhaps with a few Aussie mates this time.”
