SCENARIO: You’re wrapping up a five-day vacation with three mates and you’ve all vowed to make the last night one you won’t forget with a lot of laughs and a few rounds of beers.
You open your wallet to see how much you’ve got to spend on this epic evening and find you’re down to your last $20.
You ask the bar tender if they take EFTPOS and it’s a hard ‘no’. You then query the location of the nearest ATM and are advised that they’ve all stopped working – what are the chances?!
You’re big night out isn’t going to plan, but thankfully you’re in a country where beer is dirt cheap and $20 is more than enough to buy you and your three mates around 4.5 beers each.
What country are you in?
Think about it.
Think about it.
Think about it.
Did you guess Vietnam? If so then congratulations, you know exactly where to go for the cheapest beer in the world.
According to Intrepid Travel’s Global Beer Index, an Aussie traveller can purchase around 14 beers for $20 at $1.35 each.
Vietnam was labelled the cheapest country for beer-drinkers, followed by Mynamar, Kenya, Mexico and Egypt where eight beers can be purchased using a $20 note for $2.50 each.
The most expensive country for beer was without a doubt Iceland, where one serving of the popular ale sells for $14.50.
What a rip?!
Australia, Israel, USA and Japan weren’t much more generous, with a schooner of beer selling for around $9 each.
