3. Groupon shuts down Side Tours

groupon

Although the website says it’s still working on launching in new cities, including Sydney, Groupon has announced it is planning on shutting down its tour and activities platform, SideTour.com.

The website was acquired by Groupon in September 2013 and has been run independently since.

However, Groupon says it will cease operations of Groupon from 1 June and consolidate the company into Groupon’s website.

In an email to subscribers, the company said users will be redirected to Groupon.com and events created in SideTour will be re-created to fit Groupon.

“If you’re interested in moving your events to Groupon, there will have to be changes to the structure of your experience to make it work in Groupon’s marketplace, including the implementation of discounting and a potential change in revenue share.”
