Satellite images, computer simulations, social media posts and reconstructions were all used to determine what exactly happened on 17 July 2014 when a missile struck a commercial jet, killing all 283 people on board.

A new report issued by The Joint Investigation Team says Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17 was shot down en route from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur by a Russian-made 9M38 series Buk missile launched from a village held by rebels.

The finding contradicts a report released earlier in the investigation by Russia, which found the plane was hit by Ukrainian military.
