Uh oh, someone’s been doing a lot of overtime and neglecting their personal life. Sound familiar? Well, it should because apparently Australian travel professionals have the worst work/life balance.
The new Happiness Index study conducted by Progressive Personnel on Aussie trade found that we’re the most stressed, the most overworked and the most overwhelmed travel professionals in the world.
Well, that explains those unwanted facial lines popping up on the daily.
In assessing the general satisfaction of international travel and hospitality staff in the workplace, the recruitment company discovered Australian trade is less happy than global counterparts and we’re among the least satisfied and motivated with the overall jobs.
Uhhhhhhh that’s not us… guilty parties raise your hands.
According to the study, Australian trade believe they’re being remunerated the least fairly globally.
Of everyone in the industry, Baby Boomers are the least likely to do anything about their unhappiness, with the majority admitting that they have no plans to look for another position in the next 12 months.
Sadly, newbies to the industry aren’t having a great time either, with Australian Millennials saying they feel like they’re the least respected in the work place and the least valued.
On a positive (finally, that was really rough), Australian Millennial travel professionals perceive there to be much higher equal opportunity in the workplace compared to their global counterparts.
Australians are also slightly more likely than their international peers to recommend working in travel – so clearly, we’re stressed, over worked, we like to complain about the benefits but ultimately we LOVE our jobs.
The survey was conducted in a rating scale format from 1 (least) to 10 (highest) and was segmented by geographic location, gender and generation.
