It may not seem like a traditional way to spend the religious holiday, but Kenya offers a lot for travellers looking for a new and unique way to celebrate Easter in 2016.

Here are four brilliant ideas for a four-day weekend in Kenya, especially designed for the Easter holiday coming up.

1. Lumo and Amboseli

Kenya lodge

The Lion’s hut at Lumo Community Wildlife Sanctuary.

A trip to Lumo Community Wildlife Sanctuary, adjacent to Tsavo West National Park, offers stunning sunset views of Mt Kilimanjaro. Spend two nights in Lumo and then a night in Amboseli National Park with the elephants trumpeting in the distance. Alternatively you could swap Tsavo West for Lumo.

2. Maasai Mara and Lake Nakuru

Kenya

See lions in their natural environment at Maasai Mara.

Visit Kenya’s top two parks with a trip to Maasai Mara and Lake Nakuru – a tour with the opportunity to see all the Big Five. Two nights in Maasai Mara gives you a full day to visit to the hippo pool and seek out the lions that became famous through the BBC’s Big Cat Diary. There are opportunities to go for a hot air balloon flight at dawn, visit a Maasai village or walk with the Maasai up to the escarpment for stunning views over the reserve before heading to Lake Nakuru to see rhinos and Rothschild giraffes.

3. Lake Naivasha and Maasai Mara

One night in Lake Naivasha and two nights in Maasai Mara allows time to get physical with hiking Mt Longonot or cycling in Hells Gate National Park before seeing the magnificent wildlife on game drives in the Maasai Mara.

4. Lake Magadi

Finally Lake Magadi is a less-frequented destination but fantastic for birders at this time of year as the migratory species come to Kenya.
