Travellers flying to or from San Diego today are being warned of delays after a local shooting halted services.
All flights were stopped earlier this morning while local police attempted to disarm a man who had opened fire at a San Diego apartment complex overnight.
Planes flying to or from San Diego International Airport are required to fly over the the Bankers Hill apartment complex. According to the Federal Aviation Administration, this put them at risk of being hit by potential gunfire.
San Diego Airport has now received approval to resume services, however, it warned that the backlog of passengers may continue to cause delays.

In a tweet, the airport urged travellers to have patience.

A SWAT team surrounded the complex five hours ago and isolated the man on the building’s rooftop. Nearby streets and schools were on lock down and residents were told to take shelter elsewhere.

The San Diego Union Tribune said there have been no immediate reports of any injuries.
It’s believed the incident erupted at 9.10am local time when officers received a call about a domestic dispute. The gunman opened fire upon as officers arrived on the scene. Officers returned fire and called for additional units.
