We may not be forgetful in everyday life, but the moment we hit the road it’s expected for us travellers to lose a thing or two on the road.
According to Australia’s biggest gateway, Sydney, this year some 5,000 items were left behind by travelling in 2015 alone – and they were just the unclaimed items.
Each item was sold as part of the airport’s annual Lost Property Auction for charity, raising some $234,000. The money will be distributed to the Steve Waugh Foundation, Dymocks Children’s Charities, Stewart House and St Vincent de Paul Society.
“The auction was hugely popular with the public.”
Kerrie Mather, Sydney Airport Managing Director & CEO
“Website traffic was nearly 30 times higher than usual during the auction period, with 238,000 visits and 113,000 unique visitors to the auction website, while more than 2000 people attended the public viewing day prior to the auction.”
Among the items left behind were cameras, cosmetics and clothing, as well as unique items such as a sleep apnoea machine, Chinese tea set and vintage telephone.
However, it was these five items that brought in the most cash (images below are not of the actual item):
5. A box of designer scarves – $870
4. A Christian Dior handbag – $880
3. A new gold iPhone 6 Plus – $1,200
2. A selection of Asian paintings – 2,5000
