Four and more: Travelmarvel reveals latest European river ship for Aussie cruisers in 2026

Travelmarvel debuts its newest European river cruise ship, Travelmarvel Rigel, on 30 June 2026, departing on her maiden journey from Amsterdam to Budapest.

Travelmarvel debuts its newest European river cruise ship, Travelmarvel Rigel, on 30 June 2026, departing on her maiden journey from Amsterdam to Budapest.

Travelmarvel Rigel is the travel operator’s fourth purpose-built ship for the Rhine, Main and Danube rivers, joining sister vessels Polaris, Capella and Vega.

The 178-guest ship has 89 cabins and a crew of 44 and is built to the same specifications as the rest of the fleet.

Travelmarvel Rigel‘s inaugural voyage embarks on Travelmarvel’s classic 14-night European Gems itinerary through Central Europe, a long-standing fave of Aussies cruising the continent’s waterways.

What’s on board

Travelmarvel Rigel features an open-air Sun Deck with a jacuzzi, an onboard gym and Owner’s Suites and French-style Balcony Suites fitted with electronic slide-down windows that open up to the passing landscape.

Dining and bar options span three venues: Constellations Restaurant for fine dining, True North Lounge for casual meals and drinks and McGeary’s Bar – a pub-style space for evenings on the water.

The first departure will be marked with a sailaway party with guests and crew gathering on the Sun Deck on day two for a ceremonial ringing of the ship’s bell as the vessel sets sail for the first time.

Travelmarvel positions itself in the value end of the river cruise market, sitting below the premium APT product within the APT Travel Group, fresh off eight category nominations at ATIA’s 2026 National Travel Industry Awards.

The new ship suits clients after an inclusive, contemporary river experience without the top-tier price tag: a useful option for advisors selling to first-time river cruisers or repeat travellers after the Rhine, Main and Danube classic sailings.

APT Travel Group CEO David Cox said the launch reflects the company’s ongoing investment in the category.

“The introduction of Rigel reflects Travelmarvel’s continued investment in delivering exceptional river cruise experiences. With four purpose-built ships now operating across the Rhine, Main and Danube, we’re building a fleet defined by smart design, innovation and a clear focus on the guest,” he said.

“Our priority is straightforward, creating seamless journeys that deliver outstanding value and leave guests feeling confident in their decision to travel. Rigel is a strong expression of that approach and our commitment to leading the river cruise market.”
