All you need is... Ecuador!

Ahoy! Or is it hola? Ecuador Tourism recently treated members of the travel industry and media to a delicious lunch onboard the Buque Escuela Guayas, a tall ship from Ecuador.

Nearing the end of its one-year sail around the world, “The Guayas”  – which has its own Facebook page – docked in Darling Harbour late last week, captained by Carlos Zumárraga and his intrepid crew.

Hosted by the friendly folk over at Ecuador Tourism, guests were presented with their latest promotional video highlighting the many wonders of the country, using the Beatles song “All you need is love” as a soundtrack, and suggesting that “All you need is Ecuador“.

The lunch consisted of authentic Ecuadorian fare, which included a potato-based soup, rice, beans, and meat, and a dessert of cheese, figs and coconut.

According to Emilie Groleau, the Australia Representative of Ecuador Tourism, Aussie travellers should visit Ecuador because it packs so much for such a small country. It not only has the Galapagos Islands going for it, but a stunning coastline, the Andes mountains and the Amazon. And as a Latin American country, the people are some of the friendliest in the world, always up for a party and a good time.

On a suggested itinerary for Aussie travellers keen on visiting the country, Emilie Groleau had this to say:

“For a complete experience you will need about two-weeks. I would suggest to arrive in Quito for a few days of acclimatization and then take a short flight to Coca, smack bang in the Amazon. You could spend three or four days there and then fly back to Quito and take a train down to the bottom of the country through the Andes. At Guayaquil, you could then fly to the Galapagos.”

The Buque Escuela Guayas will next dock in Wellington before finally returning home.
