Over 800 nominations were submitted, tallied and culled down to make up this year’s list of National Travel Industry Awards (NTIA) nominees.
The list was released this morning by the Australian Federation of Travel Agents (AFTA), with dozens of industry friends making up the nominees across 37 award categories.
As with previous years, popular nominee categories were Best Travel Agency Retail – Single Location, Best Travel Consultant – Retail, Best Travel Agency Manager – Retail Single Location and the Emirates Travel Consultant Scholarship.
An impressive number of nominations were also received across the supplier categories; Best Tourist Office – International, Best Speciality Wholesaler and Best Sales Executive – Industry Supplier.
For the first time, The Travel Corporation (TTC) was nominated in 23 categories – a record for the travel company. The tally for TTC included 10 individual nominations for Best Sales Executive – Industry Supplier; five nominations for Young Sales Executive – Industry Supplier; four nominations for Best Tour Operator – International; two nominations for Best Tour Operator – Domestic; one nomination for Best Wholesaler – International Product; and one nomination for Best River Cruise Operator.
Trafalgar, Insight Vacations, Contiki and Busabout are all vying for Best Tour Operator – International, with Contiki and AAT Kings also nominated for Best Tour Operator – Domestic. Adventure World has been recognised in the Best Wholesaler – International Product category and Uniworld Boutique River Cruise Collection is a contender for Best River Cruise Operator category.
Helloworld also seems to have picked up a large number of nominations, with five agencies up for Best Travel Agency Retail – Single Location; and five agents competing in the Best Travel Consultant – Retail category.
Voting in the 2016 AFTA NTIA commences at 9.00am (AEDT) on 17 March and will run until 5.00pm (AEST) 8 April 2016.
