This is what tourists looked like back in the 80s and 90s

Cringeworthy? Yes. Daggy? You betcha. The kind of photos that you want to show? Hmm, that's a tough one – perhaps they're better off in that bottom drawer. But not without a quick giggle of course!

Cringeworthy? Yes. Daggy? You betcha. The kind of photos that you want to show? Hmm, that’s a tough one – perhaps they’re better off in that bottom drawer. But not without a quick giggle of course!

My how times have changed.

In the 80s, scrunchies, bumbags, and shoulder pads (thanks Prince, RIP) were all the rage.

And in the 90s, these fashion staples were replaced with ripped jeans (thanks Kurt Cobain, RIP), hypercolour t-shirts, and bike shorts.

It was a different world back then, especially in the travel industry, when air travel was as glamorous as it has ever been, flight attendants looked like movie stars, and Travel Agents didn’t have to compete against the likes of Webjet and other online travel agencies.

Looking back, it was also a pretty hilarious world, as these photos of American tourists on holiday in the 80s and 90s attest.

Are you ready for a laugh?

A big give-away that this is a photo from the 80s are the binoculars around the gentlemen on the left’s neck.

And the overalls. Oh the overalls.

Another pro-tip for dating a photo? Look at the chunky cameras.

These bad boys look pretty old, and we’re pretty sure they wouldn’t be able to post photos to Facebook.

This is a photo of an old sleeper-bus from the early 80s.

Kind of looks like some of the night buses I’ve recently taken in South East Asia…

I’m not sure why I decided to chuck this photo in.

He kinda looks like a caveman/truck driver to me – from the 80s.

Like father, like son.

Hats flipped back were popular as hell back in the 80s.

And then we grew up.

A classic photo from the early 80s.

Check out the cool pants and wicked hairstyles.

The car looks like one sweet ride too.

Some things never change, such as old people trying to figure out how to use their cameras!

Jokes!

All kidding aside, do you know what she’s wearing on her head?

Bare chested men carrying man bags didn’t quite take off in the 80s or 90s.

We still have our fingers crossed though.
