If you’ve been a fan of KarryOn for any length of time, then you’ll know we have a thing for airport codes. As a former agent, I still remember the exact day when I had to send my first Indian client to COK…
Call me immature, call me an idiot, call me whatever you want, but I honestly found it hilarious! And if you’re like me – or dare I say, like most agents out there – then you find that kind of humour funny too. I mean, it’s total Travel Industry Humour (TIH) and sometimes we need all the laughs we can get when the stresses of the job threaten to boil over.
But today we’re doing something else. Instead of focusing on hilarious airport codes, or telling a story using them, we’re going straight for the airport names themselves – all in the interests of making you chuckle.
So are you ready? Here are 12 of the most inappropriate, rude or just downright funny airport names on the planet.
1. Pratt Airport (PTT), USA
Flight attendants report a higher than usual incidence of stupidity on flights to this American airport.
2. Gaylord Airport (GLR), USA
Not that there’s anything wrong with that…
3. Fak Fak Airport (FKQ), Indonesia
I can only imagine the chuckles of English-speaking pilots flying into this airport.
4. Fort Dix Airport (WRI), USA
Well at least they’re keeping them all locked up over there.

I had to look this one up in the dictionary, but basically it means a man who lives off a prostitute’s earnings (as a noun) or seeking to obtain (something) without paying for it or doing anything in return (as a verb).

Apparently, Australia receives most of its viagra through this airport.

Potentially the most verbally aggressive airport in the world.

Back in the day this airport was busy. Today, not so much…

Yeah, “broken” is a word you never want to hear flying into or from any airport. Period.
10. Moron Airport (MXV), Mongolia
Perhaps a place to send those walk-ins who ask whether “Stay in Los Angeles $59 a night” includes flights? No?
