Ah… those three-letter airport codes. They can be the source of joy when you’re looking at your own itinerary, the letters symbolising a tropical holiday under palm trees (HNL) or the excitement of a new city (JFK).

But they can also cause a sting of pain when you’ve realised you’ve booked the client to the wrong airport. DOH! (Doha, Qatar).

However, they can also elicit tears of laughter or pangs of embarrassment from time to time.

Yes, we’re talking about those three-letter airport codes that mean something much more than IATA probably intended.

At KarryOn, we’ve already given you what we think are some of the funniest airport codes in the BIZ (hehe, BIZ = Bimin, Papua New Guinea), and listed the seven airports we’d be scared to fly into.

But today we’re feeling, well, just plain rude.

Here are seven of the “rudest” airport code combinations in the travel industry.

1. FAT/BUM

giphy-1

What did you just call me? This combo will take you from Fresno Air Terminal Airport (FAT) in California to Butler (BUM) in Pennsylvania.

2. POO/HED

giphy-10

Grow up, will ya?! This flight will begin in Pocos De Caldas (POO) in Brazil and whisk you all the way up to Herendeen Bay Airport (HED) in Alaska, USA. That should be enough time for you to get over the insult…

3. MOM/SUX

giphy-3

Now, this is one long @ss flight you wouldn’t want to be stuck with a brooding teen. Starting in Letfotar Airport (MOM) in Moudjeria, Mauritania, you’ll be flying all the way to Sioux Gateway Airport (SUX) in Iowa, USA.

4. FUK/YOO

giphy-9

No, that’s not the name of some Chinese restaurant in KL, that’s a city combination taking you from Fukuoka (FUK) in Japan to Oshawa Airport (YOO) in Oshawa, Canada.

5. GAY/COW

giphy-5

Is there even such a thing? Well, maybe in India… This combo starts in the India’s north at Gaya Airport (GAY) and flies half-way around the world to Coquimbo (COW) in Chile.

6. FUN/BAG

giphy-6

Where’s the other one, I hear you say?! Ha! This itinerary takes you from Funafuti International Airport (FUN) in Tuvalu, Fiji, all the way to Loakan Airport (BAG) in hilly Bagio, Philippines.

7. IOU/SEX

giphy-7

Sorry sir, we don’t accept “that” as payment, at least on this airline. Flying from tiny Ile Ouen (IOU) in New Caledonia to Sembach (SEX) in Germany, the odds of joining the mile-high club are greatly enhanced on this flight…

Can you think of any other rude city combinations that would make even a tomato blush? Let’s hear them down below!
