IT'S NOT HAPPENING: Qantas denies plans to charge for food & drink on flights

Wallets can continue to stay comfortably packed away in carry-on bags during QF flights across the Tasman, because the carrier has no intentions of introducing a ‘pay as you use’ system anytime soon.

Qantas has denied reports that it is considering extra charges for economy passengers who want to eat or drink mid-flight, after rumours of the airline adopting a ‘pay as you use’ system made headlines this week.

According to reports, the rumour emerged from an invitation-only survey, which asked select frequent flyers to give their thoughts on “pay as you use Qantas flights between Australia and New Zealand”.

The question indicated to media that the airline was considering a shake up of its services to keep up with competitors on the popular Tasman route.

However, the carrier told AirlineRatings.com that the question was only asked to “get a sense of what the market thinks” but definitely doesn’t mean that the airline is intending on doing it.

“Specifically on this question, we have no intention on unbundling our fares.”

Qantas Spokesperson

“Given we’re in the middle of rolling out free WiFi, we are clearly committed to being a full service airline.”

So there you have it, Qantas isn’t planning on charging for food, drinks or baggage anytime soon.
