Travellers, travel advisors, tourism workers and pretty much anyone who misses loved ones overseas will be excited to learn that Smartraveller has removed its ‘Do not travel’ advisory, ahead of international borders reopening.
For over 19 months the words ‘do not travel’ have been haunting us all; separated from loved ones, stranded overseas and forced to cancel all travel plans.
However, things are changing and it’s good news here on in! So pop the champers and start packing your bags!
From 1 November, Australia’s international borders will progressively reopen, with fully vaccinated Australians able to depart Australia without applying for an exemption.
In line with this reopening, Smartraveller has removed its global ‘Do not travel’ advisory.
Smartraveller has also updated travel advice levels for 177 destinations based on the latest assessment of risk – both COVID-19 and other threats to safety and security.
It has also issued a Global COVID-19 Health Advisory with the Department of Health, with advice for vaccinated and unvaccinated travellers.
If you’re not too familiar with the advice levels, they are:
- Level 1: Exercise normal safety precautions
- Level 2: Exercise a high degree of caution
- Level 3: Reconsider your need to travel
- Level 4: Do not travel
At this stage, Smartraveller says no destination will be set lower than Level 2 ‘Exercise a high degree of caution’ due to the ongoing impact of COVID-19.
But level 4 is no more, and the #ArrivalRevival has officially begun.
